The Pretty Reckless - My Medicine

Sultry is the best word to describe this song - as long as you temper it with the vein of rock running through it. My Medicine is dirty glamour at its finest, delving deep into the heart of you in the best way. From the click of a lighter at the very beginning to the last syllable this song is studied arrogance and anger, making use of heavy guitar and tempting vocals in order to create the effect. The lyrics are also part of the effect, with the gorgeous refrain Somebody mixed my medicine tying the whole song together. My Medicine is a song for dark rooms and darker intentions - take a walk on the wild side tonight.

The Pretty Reckless - Just Tonight

Fuck it, I'm not ashamed to admit I love The Pretty Reckless. All the hype that goes with it, all the posturing and hipster bullshit you can keep - but the music is fantastic. From debut album 'Light Me Up', Just Tonight is a ballad with bite. Taylor Momsen's voice is incredibly powerful, with a smoky quality which only amps up the emotion, and the alternately wailing and thrashing guitar melody really showcases it. Lyrically it's a realist love song, with love as a form of superficial comfort (Just tonight/I won't leave/And I'll lie and you'll believe), but the execution and polish is that of a band much more experienced. Just Tonight is the perfect example of why you should forget the pasts and the press, and concentrate on what matters - good music.
