Terra Naomi - Up Here

A little bit of kick-ass chill-out Saturday, the perfect accompaniment being Terra Naomi. With a voice that most female artists would kill for and a stage presence to match, this winning combination translates into amazing music. Up Here is a song that articulates how everyone feels in their strongest, truest moments (Up here I'm making you aware/That if you don't like me, well I don't care), and the simple accompaniment just emphasises the message, as well as the power in the vocals. With emotion infusing every word, this is a song for the days you're winding down, but feeling a little defiant - remember, I love you just as you are.

The Fray - Heartless (cover)

Oh, I am a sucker for cover versions, especially good ones - and twitter yesterday got me thinking about my favourites. Some of them have already featured on the site, but this one is the most recently discovered. Originally a Kanye West song, The Fray's version of Heartless is an entirely different kind of experience. This version has the most beautiful melancholy feel to it, with an acoustic backing and plaintive vocals. I'm not a massive rap fan, so this version gives a chance to examine some pretty emotive lyrics - but, to be honest, The Fray could make singing the alphabet sound like an instant classic.
